Retail Pulse - January 2019
Retail Burn
This month, we've got a mix of names featuring for several different reasons.
The most talked about retailers, according to the Retail Burn, include: M&S, Lidl, Amazon, and Rosa’s all reporting positive news stories, and Jack Wills, Debenhams., Gerry Weber, Patisserie Valerie, Chapelle Jewellery and Greenwoods Menswear where the news hasn't been so great.
The Retailer Database shows plenty of good news about M&S. M&S is upping its environmental credentials with the launch of plastic-free fruit and veg and the launch of new recycling bins for non-recyclable plastic packaging; wins PETA’s first-ever 'Vegan-Friendly High Street Retailer'; and, launches Style Finder, a mobile-only feature that allows customers to search products using photos. M&S has, however, also revealed the next 17 shops proposed for closure across the UK as part of plans to reshape its store estate.
At the other end of the scale is Greenwoods Menswear having announced that it had ceased trading and gone into liquidation less than 18 months after being rescued from administration.
